Event ideas - Bikes vs Cars & A Good American

MAKE IT BIG

All film screenings benefit from having a little bit of a buzz around them so we’ve come up with suggestions to help you create a bit more of an EVENT around your screening:

Bikes vs Cars

  • Organise a cycle to cinema - pick a well-known open space and suggest everyone meets there and cycle to the cinema.
  • Offer a discount to anyone who turns up to the screening on bikes. Your local cinema should support you on this.
  • Invite guest speakers - your local cycling campaigners, transport councillors, a cycling celebrity if you know any! (Always have someone to moderate any talks between the audience and the speakers)
  • Additional material - We have created some clips that could supplement your screening. CLICK HERE.
  • Get a local bike shop along to offer free bike checks outside the cinema/screening venue or to just distribute information about their services etc - it's good for their promotion and helps you promote your screening.
  • Create your screening as an event on Facebook and shout about the reasons for doing it and all the extra things you’re offering.

Once you have all or some of this in place, contact your local newspaper and get them to cover the event. You’ll attract a much larger audience and possibly new cyclists!

A Good American

  • Invite guest speakers - activists, organisations, local MPs, etc. (Always have someone to moderate any talks between the audience and the speakers).
  • Give the latest information about the Investigatory Powers Bill and inform people about its implications.
  • Have information about organisations’ campaigns and show their campaign videos:

   - Privacy International: A human rights organisation committed to fight for the right to privacy across the world. This is their video with Cassetteboy.

   - LIBERTY: A non-party membership organisation fighting for fundamental rights and freedoms in the UK. This is their campaign video.

   - Open Rights Group: UK’s only digital campaigning organisation working to protect the rights to privacy. This is their campaign video.

  • Create the screening as an event on Facebook and shout about the reason for doing it and all the extra things you’re offering.
  • Encourage people to post about attending the screening on social media and use hashtags such as #privacymatters, #digitalprivacy, #internetfreedom, etc. Offer a free ticket to a randomly picked winner.
  • Let people write signs answering the question ‘why does digital privacy matter?’ and post photos holding them up on social media.

Once you have all or some of this in place, contact your local newspaper and get them to cover the event.
