Filmmakers Circle with Tizintizwa Collective

In collaboration with the Folk Film Gathering, this Circle event lead by filmmakers and storytellers Nadir BouhmouchSoumeya Ait Ahmed invites participants to delve into the deeper dimensions of collaboration — not just as a practical process, but as a guiding mindset and creative approach to filmmaking. Together, we’ll explore how co-creation can transform storytelling, particularly when working alongside diverse communities.

This event is open to Scotland-based documentary and non-fiction moving image filmmakers, cinematographers, writers, and producers.

Participants are also invited to attend a special live performance later that evening: The Legend of the Anonymous Poet. This unique event blends film, lecture, and storytelling to weave together historical events, Moroccan popular myths, and elements of magical fiction.

Now in its 11th year, the Folk Film Gathering is the world’s first folk film festival, celebrating how the lived experiences of communities — in Scotland and around the world — are expressed through cinema.

ABOUT TIZINTIZWA COLLECTIVE

Tizintizwa is a Moroccan poly-disciplinary art-research collective which acts as a set of pretexts for collective creation and cross-pollination. Their practice is based on working together and with others, finding consonance in difference and championing heterogeneity in nature and culture. Their practice often revolves around collaborations with rural communities, documenting oraliture, observing ecological transformations, initiating cross-regional conversations, and alluding to the importance of transgenerational transmission and relations between land and people. Their work has been shown at various venues including the Pompidou Kanal, Centre Pompidou-Metz, the 35th São Paulo Bienial, documenta 15 and IDFA.
